Drivers will have a safer and more efficient route from Lower Sackville to Dartmouth with the opening of the Sackville-Bedford-Burnside Connector.The new nine-kilometre extension of Highway 107 will open later today, December 20. The extension connects Highway 102 in Lower Sackville to the existing Highway 107 from Burnside to Musquodoboit Harbour.“The new extension of Highway 107 will create more efficient routes for people to travel and help reduce congestion and accidents that are currently seen on Magazine Hill, said Fred Tilley, Minister of Public Works. “With our growing population, projects like this are also important to help support those who want to come and live in our great province.”The project includes:nine kilometres of highway between Exit 4C on Highway 102 and Highway 118an interchange and connector that goes to Burnside Drive and Akerley Boulevard, allowing for future expansion of the Burnside Industrial Parkan interchange near Anderson Lake that will provide access to potential future development in the Bedford areaan interchange and new lanes that connect to Highway 102.The Province invested $151.1 million in this project, which cost $252.4 million. The federal government contributed $86.5 million through the New Build Canada Fund and Halifax Regional Municipality invested $14.8 million.
Halifax Regional Police is asking the public to avoid an intersection in Dartmouth as a utility pole undergoes repairs.At approximately 12:00 p.m., officers responded to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Joseph Zatzman Drive and Wright Avenue. The driver of an 18-wheeler truck struck a utility pole. There are no reported injuries at this time.Traffic is currently being re-routed in the area and the intersection will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic as the utility pole is repaired.Please use alternate routes to avoid delays.
The Province’s mail pickup service for high-priority provincial government items will not be available Saturday, December 21, because of the forecast storm.Nova Scotians who were advised they could get their item Saturday can instead pick it up at their local Access Nova Scotia centre either today, December 20, or Monday, December 23, during regular business hours.The Province started offering the pickup service last month during the postal strike. The second update on Budget 2024-25: Building Nova Scotia, Faster shows continued focus on significant investments in healthcare and affordability measures that help support families, seniors and a healthy economy.Finance and Treasury Board Minister John Lohr presented the update today, December 20. The government is forecasting a deficit of $247.5 million for the 2024-25 fiscal year, a $219.9-million improvement from the $467.4-million deficit presented in September.“Nova Scotians have made it clear that they want government to continue our work and keep investing in what matters to them most,” said Minister Lohr. “We continue to manage provincial finances and support Nova Scotians with affordability measures that are making a difference, like the school lunch program and home-care supports for seniors and their families.” Finance and Treasury Board provides budget updates to the public every September, December and as a final forecast with the following year’s budget.
